Crinoids first came about in the early to middle of the Cambrian period and survive up until the present day. They are aquatic organisms which have an internal skeleton made of calcareous plates. The stem do no have muscles, but have strong elastic like fibers connecting to columns. This allows the stem to be capable of some movement, allowing the crinoids to move against currents.
